March 12, 2010 - The Naked Pirate Beach Bar will open for the summer!

June 19, 2009 - An update to the article below - I'm sad to report that the Naked Pirate no longer allows dogs to accompany owners inside.  The Health Department frowns on pets inside any establishment that serves food, open-air or otherwise.  The staff of the Pirate are genuinely apologetic about this change and will permit your dog to sit outside of the railing where you can still reach him.

Memorial Day Weekend 2009

Well, it finally happened, and wow, what a party it was!

The long awaited grand opening of The Naked Pirate Beach Bar took place over Memorial Day weekend and couldn’t possibly have received a warmer reception.

Its location, at what used to be Park Moabi, just past Topoc’s Golden Shores, requires an upriver boat ride from Lake Havasu where you will rediscover the beauty of Topoc Gorge thanks to the newly implemented no wake zone through Devil’s Elbow.  Navigating the turquoise waters beneath towering red rock cliffs reminds you that the Colorado river is truly one of the great wonders of the world, something we sometimes forget as we zoom around from spot to spot on the lake.

Once you pass under the I-40 bridge, get ready to hang a left into the Park Moabi inlet.  Flanked by soft sand on both sides that is perfect for beaching your boat, the channel meanders up to the recently developed Pirate Cove Resort and Marina.  The resort boasts beachfront cabin sales and rentals, a store to buy your booty, dry storage and boat slips, the Pirate Cove Grill, and best of all, The Naked Pirate Beach Bar.

With a 1400 square foot deck complete with ceiling fans, the Naked Pirate is a super-sized version of our old favorite, the "formerly Naked" Turtle Beach Bar.  The extra space affords room for a band and dance floor, which was well broken in this past weekend.  The specialty drinks are tantalizingly tropical, just as they are at the Turtle – nothing better to quench your thirst on a hundred degree day.

If you find yourself beached on the opposite side of the channel, don’t worry; the Pirate Cove shuttle boat cruises the inlet non-stop and is happy to ferry you across.

The beaches are also an excellent place for your kids to play.  There is even an old twin-engine plane anchored in the center of the cove for those adventurous enough to swim up and check it out.

Attached to the bar is the Pirate Cove Grill, which serves some of the best looking river food around including hamburgers stacked with gourmet accoutrements that tower around five inches tall!

The atmosphere is unbeatable and the staff is super friendly.  I can see the Naked Pirate becoming the river’s new hot spot.  Congratulations, Craig, on a job well done.
